How to Press Past Your Own Limitations Once and For All

Can I ask you a question?

Was there any area of your life or your business where you felt limited in 2017?  And I mean you felt like a slave or maybe you felt paralyzed.  You felt like there was more but you just couldn't reach it.  That's what I mean. So I ask this question again:  Was there any area of your life or your business where you felt limited in 2017?

My name is Tasha M. Scott.  I'm a Motivational Speaker, Trainer, and Coach. I am passionate about helping leaders transform their lives and their businesses so they can improve their productivity and profitability. And today, I want to talk about how to press past your own limitations.

I'll be honest. I have both hands raised because as much as I hate to admit it, in fighting for my own identity last year, people pleasing kept rearing its ugly head. This time it came in a different form, though. 

You would have thought that it would have been from the haters or the doubters or the naysayers. This time it actually came from the opinions of my loved ones; people that I highly respect, people that I actually care about.   It's hard when you have a larger-than-life dream or larger-than-life vision.  You are crazy about everybody being on board with it. You want approval from those that are near and dear to you. But what happens when you're standing alone - it feels like. It feels like you're the only one that gets it. There are times where people pleasing will challenge you to give in and just let go or to question yourself. 

Do I stand strong in this?

That's ONE of the challenges that I had last year. 

Today, I just want to talk about those limitations because we don't talk about it enough.

  • What were your triggers?
  • What was it that every time it came up, it caused your mindset to want to go back or cause you to doubt yourself or second guess. 

I just believe that it's possible in 2018 that we really can press past all limitations, and we can be our best selves in 2018.  In exploring this topic for myself, I came up with these strategies that I wanted to pass on to you as well.

Number 1:

How can you press past your limitations so you can be your best self and 2018?

Check your attitude and detox from the negative

John Maxwell says, "You have the power to set the tone for your life by being positive. Find the positive in everything. Say something positive in every conversation. Remove negative words. Learn to express gratitude."

We really can find something to be positive or grateful for in every situation - even those times where it feels like we're the only ones standing with our dream or our vision. It's possible!

Number 2:

Focus on growth over goals

What's the difference? 

Well, for me I think about my entire life. The thing that comes up is an exercise that I take my coaching clients through called a SWOT Analysis. This is a great exercise where you can learn to locate yourself. 

  • The S in SWOT is strength
  • The W is weaknesses.
  • The O is opportunities.
  • The T is threats.

This is a great tool where you can learn to identify your strengths and learn to live from a place of your strength. And whatever those weaknesses are - You just learn to outsource them.

Number 3:

Build a stronger support system

T.D. Jakes has a book called "Soar" that I just absolutely love, and he talks about two different crews that you can have. You have your ground crew and you have your flight crew.

Your ground crew.

This is your friends, your supporters, your family. These are people who knew you back then. These are people that they've got your back. They believe in you. They're the ones that are telling you that you can do this.

But a flight crew.

Now, this is the crew that I like to call a dream team. They are the ones that can help get you off the ground. They're the ones that can support you. They're your team of experts. They know more than you. They've been down the road. They actually complement your weaknesses because they can help you and balance you out so that you can actually press past those limitations that we talked about.

Number 4:

Give value to others

I just am a firm believer that if I compliment someone or if I help someone, it is not going to take away from who I am.

We have to get to the place where we all understand that there's a scarcity mentality and there's an abundance mentality.  We really can all live in an abundance mentality.  There's more than enough to go around. We are all unique, individual people. We don't have to make it a competition. That's what scarcity mindset people do. But we can be people that walk and live in abundance. There is more than enough for all of us.

Number 5:

Execute liKe your life depends on it

I have to go back to the focusing and building a stronger support system, y'all.  If we focus on growth over goals, we can actually hone in on our lives after we've done that SWOT Analysis that I was talking about.   We can maybe pick two - maybe three areas - of our lives that we say: You know what, this year I'm going to focus growing in this area.  It can be a place of strength that you just want to enhance, and then maybe pick one of your weaknesses, and say:  Over here, I'm going to go get some help. I'm going to get somebody that can help me grow. 

That's growth goals right there.

So I just got to share five different strategies on how you can press past your limitations, how you can be your best self in 2018.
